The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that it will now make approved Form 1023-EZ data available to the public through its website. Form 1023-EZ, Streamlined Application for Recognition of Exemption Under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, is filed by certain organizations seeking exemption from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). Forms 1023-EZ are open to public inspection; however, prior to this announcement, Form 4506-A, Request for Public Inspection or Copy of Exempt or Political Organization IRS Form, was required to be filed with the IRS in order to obtain access to this information.
The information available includes basic data filed on the Form, such as the name of the organization, Employer Identification Number and the names of officers, directors and trustees. The data is available from mid-2014 through 2016 and will continue to be updated quarterly.
