It was a record-breaking performance on March 5 at this year’s Schneider Downs Pancake Breakfast. More than 125 hungry CPAs jammed Pittsburgh office’s Workplace Café, lining up for a hot breakfast prepared by the members of the administrative staff.
When all was said and done, the firm set a record for consumption in every food category:
500 pancakes
360 eggs
180 slices of French Toast
450 sausage links (“I bought every package in the store,” bragged Tom Harvey, Director of Human Resources. “We bought all they had.”)
The breakfast is an annual tradition, hosted by representatives from Human Resources, Operations, IT and Marketing teams. This year’s event was capped by a pancake-eating contest, through which Matt O’Polka was crowned for downing 25 pancakes in 20 minutes. A crowd of more than 50 people stood by, shouting encouragement to all of the contestants. Nobody left hungry.
“The breakfast is all in fun, but it’s also meant as a gesture of appreciation. We know our professionals are working extra hours and weekends to make sure we meet every deadline for every client,” said Harvey. “Serving up a hot breakfast is a fun way for the rest of us to show how much we admire their efforts.”
Harvey also indicated that he’d alert local supermarkets in advance next year…just to make sure they have enough sausage on hand.
