The Illinois legislature recently passed and Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law a amnesty program that will run from October 1, 2019 through November 15, 2019.
The program allows delinquent taxpayers to resolve Illinois tax liabilities for tax periods between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2018. Taxpayers taking advantage of the program can receive significant savings, as the Illinois Department of Revenue will abate all related penalties and interest. Taxpayers must be sure that all Illinois tax liabilities are settled for the amnesty period, since any unpaid taxes may negate any amnesty granted by the Department for the entire amnesty period.
Similar to other amnesty programs, it is open to most taxpayers who are not a party to any criminal investigation or any criminal or civil litigation that is pending in any Illinois court for nonpayment, delinquency or fraud in relation to any state tax imposed by Illinois state law.
