Looking back on my internship at Schneider Downs as it is quickly ending; I can’t believe how much I have learned in such a short period of time. Over the course of my eight week internship, I think I have learned as much as I do in a whole semester. At some points, it seemed like information overload, but now I realize that I got a very good taste for public accounting. Working with various clients, I also got an idea of the various industries that Schneider Downs serves and how specific parts of the work we do will vary from client to client. That is part of what was so interesting about the internship, every day was different and each day I was learning something new.
My internship was truly a learning experience and thanks to the great teams I worked with, they made the learning easier. The employees at Schneider Downs are great people who are very helpful, understanding and very good at what they do. Any questions I had were given full, in-depth answers that deepened my understanding of what exactly I was doing. The work environment was also extremely comfortable, making work productive.
This experience exhibited how important an internship is for college students. Working this summer will definitely ease my transition from college to working next year. I think my time management, communication and teamwork skills have improved. Additionally, I found that public accounting is definitely the career I want to pursue. I believe I got the most out of my internship this summer and I am looking forward to taking my experience with me into my future career.
